Community Web, a provider of web hosting services that support volunteer neighborhood organizations, announces significant new functionality that gives neighborhoods the opportunity to aggregate their buying power and several new features that make volunteer life easier.

Bethesda, MD – January 30, 2005 – Today, Community Web, a provider of web hosting services that support volunteer neighborhood organizations announces several new software functions which extend the capabilities of its community website offering. New features are being implemented in four areas: Community Administration, Community Communication, Community Content and Community Buying Power.

Community Administration

A new membership, dues and directory module automates many of the repetitive administrative tasks of community leaders. Residents are able to enter information directly into the neighborhood directory, preview directory listings for accuracy, check dues status and pay dues online. Officers can more easily manage membership and financial information, and eliminate the hassle of collecting dues by mail. Accurate, up-to-date directories can be prepared online, in a format that allows printing locally or at a print shop.

Community Communication

The cross community connector enables neighborhood leaders to identify and contact other community leaders throughout the Washington, D.C. area. A simple search of geographic areas yields a list of local communities, neighborhood leaders, and contact information (if allowed). Now, finding other community leaders is easy. The system supports email groups for those interested in specific civic projects, and can generate mailing labels to expand the ways to contact interested parties. In addition, it provides a secure way for selected utilities and local governments to communicate quickly and easily with communities about issues that affect the neighborhood.

Community Content

Community Web now allows neighborhoods to quickly and easily share memories with the photo utility. The photo utility automatically uploads digital pictures, resizes the image, creates thumbnail pictures and professionally displays your photos of fun community events. Photos can be quickly and easily managed and displayed in albums by categories.

In addition, a new document library provides a place to create and archive information and documentation important to the community. Now, when neighborhood or PTA leaders change, the institutional memory is saved – making turnover much less complicated.

An exciting new family news magazine capability has been added as a way to help draw members to neighborhood websites. Community Web provides the content for the online magazine, submitted by neighbors, professionals and writers.

Community Buying Power

An exciting new function, supported by group buying technology, allows the neighborhood to aggregate their demand for goods and services and negotiate great service at lower prices. Log on to the ‘group buy’ section and indicate an interest in home painting services, catering services, car cleaning services, pet sitting services and more. Community Web negotiates or bids out the jobs with service providers and returns a portion of the savings to the community organization or PTA.
